THE DIVESKYE CLASSICS and MORE TO BE DISCOVERED

With Skye’s enormous coast there are always new sites waiting to be discovered. Listed above are what we call The DiveSkye classic collection, a list we refer to as the ‘Munro’s of diving on Skye! Having dived this coast for over 30 years, we put most of them on the dive map, but more importantly we know all the other sites that fill in the gaps, which is particularly relevant if tides are fickle or the weather unforgiving!

SKIPPERS KNOWLEDGE

The skippers knowledge and dive experience is what makes or breaks a trip, and as John Liddiard said in his article in Diver, July 2005; “Most experienced divers can pick a reasonable scenic dive off a chart. Just look for any rock, pinnacle, channel or headland with close contours and a bit of current and the chance are it will be worth a look. But that won’t necessarily account for all the best scenic sites, as the next one beautifully demonstrates. There is nothing on the chart to indicate anything other than a gentle slope of kelp under the cliffs at Rubh nan Clach (and I have no idea how that is pronounced). In fact, for a mile each way the coast is probably just that. It takes the experience of someone who has been diving Skye for years and systematically exploring, to know just where a group of big scour holes can be found. It’s a scenic housing development for all the best marine life, from crawfish to octopus, tastefully landscaped with anemones and dead men’s fingers, carefully secluded 3m below a surrounding arboretum of kelp.”

NIGHT DIVES

These can be done anywhere but our favourites for convenience is LOCHBAY PINNACLES, which we often do as a day dive, then again as a night dive, and you can still make it back to the pub!  MEANISH REEF is also a favourite in the evening!

PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEO

All of these sites are photogenic.  Some teem with life and are great for macro, others have bright white seabeds and clear water so are great for wide angle. Marine life is abundant and there is great colour to capture. Whether it’s stills or video you will  not be disappointed. We run photography speciality trips for those that want to focus on getting the perfect pictures. Excellent topside wildlife adds to these opportunities. All images on this sight were taken by journalists or visiting divers on our expeditions. View a selection of our CUSTOMER GALLERY and CUSTOMER VIDEOS here.
